Computer Services maintains a minimum standard for the purchase of new Intel-Based Windows (Wintel) computers and works with vendors to ensure reliable & compatible systems at the best prices. Current minimum purchase recommendation and prices for University purchases. These systems are available with either Windows 95 or Windows NT 4 operating systems.

Faculty staff and students may purchase Wintel computers through the University of Maine Computer Connection.

Macintosh 

We are required to purchase all Macintosh equipment through the University of Maine Computer Connection . The Computer Connection offers educator & student discounts on Macintosh computers and peripherals. They also run a local Macintosh repair shop.

Unix 

Computer Services recommends Linux on an Intel cpu for client's requiring a general purpose unix operating system. We can also help with acquiring Unix operating systems on Sparc hardware.
