An account identifies you to a network-based service. Accounts are necessary to customize services for your use and prevent others from gaining access to your services or acting in your name on the network; e.g., reading your e-mail. Accounts are assigned on the following systems as necessary. Note: Systems "under-development" may not be available for general access. Host Host Type Services Polaris Netware file server & email Post office for faculty & staff. Holds shared applications and workgroup directories for office computers. Io Netware file server If your workgroup requires shared access to a local database, it goes here. CMS-UNET IBM Mainframe IBM mainframe shell environment. Required for access to Natural. Provides space for posting WWW pages. Expires if user fails to change password within 100 days of last change. Also provides functionality of Pop-UNET & Remote Access-UNET Pop-UNET E-mail Email account for use with pop mailers; e.g., Pegasus mail, Netscape, Eudora. This is the default account setup for students. Also provides functionality of Remote Access-UNET Remote Access-UNET Internet Access Provides access to Unet off-campus Internet service from any Unet site in the state. Natural-UNET Student Records Provides access to student records for advising. User friendly, scripted environment. Requires a CMS-UNET account too. Student NDS Students Labs Account for using UMPI computer lab computers. Chronos Calendar server Personal information management (calendar) www.umpi.maine.edu www server WWW server for department and university pages.
