Electronic Mail

Electronic mail allows you to send messages using a computer to other email users on-campus and around the world. All members of the University community are entitled to an email account. We currently support the following email packages.

Faculty & Staff:

Pegasus Mail (DOS, Windows, Macintosh), Eudora (Macintosh) & Netscape Mail (Windows & Macintosh)

Students:

Eudora (Windows & Macintosh), CMS Mail (via 3270 emulator).

Faculty and staff should contact Computer Services to request an email account. Students should use the Email Account Page. Lab consultants should use E-mail account request or may visit the Folsom and Library computer labs or the Houlton Center service desk to request an email account. Account requests usually take 1 to 2 business days to process.

Students need a 3.5" diskette to use email in the computer labs. The diskette is used to store email messages and account information. All computer lab consultants are trained to assist students with the use of email.

Concerned about email privacy? Here's our policy on User Privacy.

Users with off-campus Internet access may use any POP3 compatible email program (Pegasus, Eudora, Netscape, etc.) to retrieve messages from our email post offices.

Use these settings with your home email program.
SMTP outgoing server or post office: maine.edu
Incoming POP3 server or host for faculty & staff: polaris.umpi.maine.edu
Incoming POP3 server or host for students: maine.edu
