Instructional Technology Commitments

Instructional Technology Commitments

In order to improve planning and support for courses dependent upon instructional technologies, the Academic Affairs office, in consultation with technology services (Computer and Audio-Visual), developed a process for managing requests and committing support to instructional technologies.

Principles

  1. Instructional-technology-dependent courses deserve the same opportunity for commitment and support as courses dependent upon traditional information resources; e.g., classroom, library, bookstore, chalk, laboratory, etc.
  2. Course-specific technology commitments are ongoing (from year to year) and are reviewed as necessary.
  3. Faculty start this process well before the semester in which they expect to depend upon instructional technologies to allow for processing time.
  4. Technology services cannot commit to providing course-related instructional technology support for faculty (and their students) that chooses not to participate in this process.

Instructional Technology Commitment Process

Step 1: Faculty identify specific instructional technology dependencies for a course using this form. For each specific technology, the user type (faculty or student), location(s) of use and frequency of use are identified. Instructors are also encouraged to identify anticipated future instructional technology dependencies. Faculty sends the completed form to Rick Thibeault for processing.

Step 2: Technology services staff provides a feasibility and cost analysis to the instructor, department and Academic Affairs office. Technology services staff identifies the instructional technologies they can commit to and those for which additional resources are necessary.

Step 3: The instructor and/or department coordinator, Academic Affairs and technology services, using the feasibility and cost analysis, agree on appropriate commitments. Note: the commitment may also require approval under the Plus Service policy. Commitments are documented in the Instructional Technology Commitments Database, which is available online.

Step 4: Technology Services deliver and support the committed-to technologies.
