The Kleinman Report

March 26, 1998, Campus Center, Allagash Room at Noon!

Computer Services invites everyone to the monthly Computing Discussion Group. Please come with your computer questions and any other computer related topics you may want to discuss with your peers and CS staff. Lunch fixings will be provided.

Summary of the last Computing Discussion Group:

  • Fourteen computer users, plus two Computer Services staff were in attendance at the Feb. 23 meeting.
  • Questions were asked about the Win95 and Office 97 upgrade in the UMPI computer labs.
  • Also, there were questions and discussion about faculty and staff finding time to receive training.
  • These issues were addressed by Mike Goldstein, Director of Computer Services, as well as feedback and comments from the attendees.
  • It was suggested that the discussion group remain open to general topics so that more people can have the opportunity to ask questions and bring up topics.

Computer Services' staff responded to the following data emergencies last month.

  • A staff member in Emerson Annex has a file successfully restored after accidentally deleting it.
  • A staff member in South Hall had a database successfully restored after the working copy was corrupted.
  • Computer Services personnel successfully backed up and restored the data of five people who received replacement or upgraded machines.
  • Someone, who may have been you, lost a document which took hours to recreate. Was that someone you? Could a recent backup have helped you?
  • Call Computer Services (x626) for help preventing these tragedies. Take back your time!
