Organizational Relationships:

  • Reports to Executive Director of Information Services
  • Supervises Microcomputer Technician
  • Supervises Systems and Software Support Specialist
  • Coordinates with:
    1. Manager of Customer Services.
    2. Faculty and professional/classified staff relative to providing hardware selection, purchase, repair, and maintenance services.
    3. Other campus staff providing technology services.
    4. Other non-campus support providers (software vendors, Unet, etc.)

Primary Purpose of the Position:

The Manager performs a variety of supervisory, administrative and technical work associated with Information Technology applications, communication (voice and data), and operating systems.

  • Furnishes leadership and direction in the development of short and long range plans.
  • Coordinates department activities with other departments and agencies as needed.
  • Assures that assigned areas of responsibility are performed within budget.
  • Manages and standardizes procedures to improve efficiency and effectiveness of operations.
  • Regularly reviews and updates goals, directions, and strategies for maintaining high customer service levels as well as providing for future service expansion.
  • Maintains technical services resource library, records, and a report management system.
  • Assesses new software/hardware policies or procedures recommended or required by the information function of the enterprise.
  • Develops and analyzes cost estimates for new hardware/software upgrades or additions, and external consulting projects.
  • Procures equipment necessary for the technical services department operation.
  • Enlists external consultants as necessary to assist in large Information Technology projects.
  • Coordinates local networking operations with UMS technical services operations.

Associated Duties:

  • Provides backup for subordinates and related positions as needed or required.
  • Serves on various employee committees or task forces.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
